because of the communist influence and the extreme restriction of freedom, including freedom of speech and the press I believe that legalism is more prevalent in Chinese society today.

- According to economists, China will become the world's wealthiest nation by the year 2012.
- China manufactures 60% of the world's bicycles (the United States buys 86% of the world's bicycles).
-The Ch'in Dynasty (221-207 B.C.) buried alive many scholars in its programme to suppress learning and Confucianism. (i know we already know this but i still think its interesting)
- Shi Huang-Ti was the first emperor of China and founder of the Qin dynasty. Had he been a European ruler, he would likely be considered great today. The Chinese, on the other hand, have given him a black reputation for his ruthlessness, his massive conscription of labour, his wars, his harsh laws, and his burning of books in 213 B.C.
- Chinese Emperor Shi Huang-Ti built a network of 270 palaces, linked by tunnels, and was ao afraid of assassination that he slept in a different palace each night.
-The first Ming Emperor, Hung Wu, was so afraid of the malign influence of a former ruler's vital force, a force he believed resided in Peiping, the former Yuan Dynasty capital, that he ordered the city leveled, in 1368. But first he had his officials catalogue the beauty and grandeur of the Yuan Great Interior, the imperial palace.
-The story of Cinderella first appears in a Chinese book written between 850 and 860 A.D.

The Chin dynasty ended in civil war, when the last Emperor died and left the throne to his eldest son, which was in turn forced to commit suicide, the throne was then claimed by the second son, who was imprisoned and put to death by the general Chao Kao, the country was plunged into civil war shortly thereafter and the capital was occupied in 207 B.C. by the rebels. This is from the book "China's Imperial Past" by Charles Hucker.

I have studied many religions and I find that they are very similar in their messages and teachings. For example, Jesus and Buddha both emphasized love towards all, and the value of charity and also living among the poor. chord0

whether we are born evil or good

I think that different people have different interests on that topic. Like for example, murderers are probably not born completely good, they must already have an interest in death or blood or whatever and that developes as they grow older. Other people, on the other hand, could be born good and kind of develope that interest further than evilness. So i think that it depends on what you are born interested in... But i also believe that your growing environment can turn you evil or good.

I also think our environment could determine whether we turn out to be evil or good, but only if we let our environment infuence our ideas. During the Middle ages, whether we are born evil or good was also a great controversy among Catholics, and perhaps also among protestants.

Hi everybody, congratulations on producing a wonderful wiki. Interesting, clear, easy to read and informative. I will be showing teachers here in Australia the wonderful work you are doing. Have you read Geoffrey Blainey's A Short History of the World? It is an interesting read and there is quite a bit of content relating to Chinese history and the influences on Chinese civilization. I enjoyed reading it and wonder if you would too. You may also have seen the following webquest: http://www.kn.pacbell.com/wired/China/ChinaQuest.html. Again I found it quite interesting

i kind of disagree in the way that confucius said dont worry about the after life but stick with the present. I believe that the life we live in now is important but the life that we are going to live in after death is more important. Therefore, i pray to God whenever I regret things that I have done and rely on him when I need his help. Maybe, even Confucius isn't perfect after all

Umm there was one thing that confucius believed which was that people should spend less time praying to god to help them and take on the responsibility to make everything better themselves... I partially agree with this phylosophic saying but i also disagree of it on a different area... I believe that god is not only a being that created the world but i also believe that god is a symbol of hope for a lot of people and i disagree with the fact that you shouldnt be complaining to god about your problems... I agree with the fact that you should take responsibility of how you live your life but if you have no one else to talk to or to pour out your emotions to, i think that god is a very good thing to have privately... We should take action to change but we should also do what we think is right for our mental and emotional health... and for a lot of people that is praying...

haha.. angela.. ill reply to u!!!... anywayz.. i think your wrong.. i think that different people have different interest. some people are more interested in being evil and others are more interested in being nice... I believe that you hold your own fate in your own hands and if you want to change than its up to you to make that change... I think that environment might play some role in what you turn out to become but its still YOUR life and i think that if you want to be good then you can and the other way around. TAKE THE INICIATIVE!!! anywayzzz getting off topicc... i dont believe everyone is born evil... i believe that you can be born evil and be born nice.. its up to you if you want to change who you are..
